just to know you was enough for me
I didn't need to brush you with my fingertips
or hold you hostage from the world
just to see your smile directed at me
helps to drive the demons from my mind
you will walk and whisper 'Jesus'
you will read from your Quran
every path to god is calling out your name
when I carried you across the stream
the earth stood still for your return
and the moon refused to draw the morning tide
now the children tend your flower bed
the young men plow your field for you
and they vow to love and die for you
while the women weave your hair into golden braids
just to know you was enough for me
i didn't need to thunder through your window at night
or charm you to my well of wasted ways
just the pleasure of your company
leaves me wanting nothing more from life
