Hands held together nearly touching
Cupping energy and loving memories
Remembering when a child was young
Gentle thoughts sprinkled with giggles
An open book of colorful nursery rhymes
Old and tried… brand new to little ears
Delight was shown as tiny fingers pointed
Turning pages until there were no more
Newly hatched baby chicks softly peeping
Placed gently into a child’s open hand
Wide opened eyes were amazed at the sight
Excited curiosity could hardly be contained
A silver dollar placed very tenderly
As a remembrance of a special visit
A rare coin that was not often seen
Hidden in a safe place… never spent
Thoughts of a mother and grandmother…
And a traveled road to a distant aunt
Recalling when I was a small child
Memories that remain of maternal love
