Judas betrayed Christ for thirty pieces of silver
Judas Iscariot
Christ's twelfth disciple
Despised down the ages
Reviled as worst traitor in history
Selling Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
But among the twelve
He loved Jesus Christ the most
Was treasurer of the group
Zealot, and freedom fighter.
He knew Jesus was the Messiah
Believing he would set Israel free
From Roman tyranny
And sold him to the temple priests.
But God did not send an army of Angels
As Judas thought he would
For Jesus was to be sacrificed
Sacrificial lamb, salvation of Mankind.
Overwhelmed with guilt
Judas hung himself from a tree
In a place called the field of blood
Purchased with thirty pieces of silver.
