Bijoy Philip - The things growing in my watch

2014-11-07 1

I can see this huge second hand in my watch
growing heavy with days.
Things are starting to grow on it
trees, rocks and everything stupid like us.

I'm trying to measure out 'haikus' with my pen
Trying to rhyme it with the same second hand in my watch
But I think it only follows the rhyme scheme of waterdroplets in empty buckets.

I love my life because my watch ticks
I try to concentrate
But my words are going here and there
Like a mad chinese fire cracker.

I talk about love sometimes
And then I talk about time
Sometimes I even feel like rebuilding the Berlin wall
Without asking how they would feel about it.

A black ant fell on the page I was reading this afternoon
And I was wondering
How it could stay alive
Falling from the top of that tree

Or would it die soon?
Was it the time that really matters?

So many things are now growing in my watch
I've got a whole civilisation down there
And it's growing to strike mid- night
Maybe its time for them to sleep.
