Marilyn Lott - My Christmas

2014-11-07 1

When I was a little girl
Christmas meant
Learning about Baby Jesus
In Sunday school and
Singing carols at school
For our Christmas program.
We decorated our tree
With crayon-colored chains.
We spent hours making them
Sticking them together with water and flour.
We also made popcorn
Chains that crumbled easily.
It took a lot of popcorn!
My brother and I had a stocking
And inside we always found an orange,
Nuts, hard candy
And a tube of plastic bubbles
That invariably ended up on the wood stove!
Christmas to us was not so much about presents
Because there were very few.
It was about family being together
And remembering a precious baby that was
Born on this day so very long ago.
I always got a doll
And my mother made clothes for it.
My dad made something for each of us
From his wood-shop.
He was as creative with tools
As Mom was with the sewing machine.
Today I try to give my family
A special Christmas too.
Yes, it’s commercialized
But the love and closeness is there.
Now I have my wonderful grandkids
To share this holiday with
And I’m truly blessed!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! !
AND A YEAR OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!
