Alison Cassidy - Flash Flood

2014-11-07 8

I drove slowly
extra carefully
wipers frantic
mind alert -
ninety minutes to curtain.

'Sorry love,
the theatre's flooded.
You'll have to cancel.'

Soon -
the cars arrived
and the children
with crimped hair
and lipstick
excited
chattering.

Little ones
laughing
larked around naked
on the oval.

Such an adventure...

Later
we found
two starlings
with bright yellow beaks
and pale blue bodies
drowned
on the concrete.
