Watching the day disappear,
The restless rain does fall,
Upon the ground,
Reflecting the night of the city,
In the vast, tall, place,
That I am found.
Silence fills the empty streets,
I've passed this way before,
Time and again,
Walking to a place called nowhere,
In the cold, dark, dank,
September rain.
I watch the advertising signs,
Changing to the heartbeat,
Of city night,
Colours of the brands and logos,
On the large, wide, boards,
Do shine so bright.
They try to hypnotise my mind,
But they have no meaning,
They're just a stain,
Of the city that now is sleeping,
Through the cold, dark, dank,
September rain.
