I shall no longer
Say goodbye!
Goodbye shall no longer
Be in my vocabulary!
It is too harsh,
Too ugly, too final!
It is a word
I shall no longer say....
I shall, instead, say
'Au revoir, ' (till we meet again) ,
Or maybe you will hear
'Vaya con Dios, ' (go with God) .
Or, with hands pressed together,
I shall bow, and say,
'Shalom (peace) ,
Then I might say,
As the Zulus in South Africa say,
'Hamba gahle', or go well,
And you must reply,
'Sala gahle', or stay well.
Or would you rather hear
'Aloha, ' which is, 'Come again, and soon, ')
Or with my Southern accent,
I shall say, and mean it,
'Y'all come back, now, you heah? '
Then I shall think
I will see you again,
Or meet you someday soon
When I least expect you,
Or should I simply say,
'Please, stay? '
