What makes you smile in this world?
Those things that undeniably
Make your lips curl spontaneously
At their sheer beauty?
When you just can't help yourself?
Children's laughter at the fair...
New spring lambs and perfumed air?
Watery sunlight after rain...
Which delights make you
Grin through the pain, when
You realise that this life's not
In vain, that there's a silver lining...
Unconditional love from your child?
The wind, twirling, going wild
Showing you that this magic is
Sometimes tangible, real...
Your lover's voice, laughing?
Pulling you into their spell
And for a second, just a tiny moment
All is perfect and wonderful and well...
The haunting melody
Of music, so beautiful it fills your soul
Strings from the violins that
Simply sing to your heart....
Brown paper, crinkling
Christmas bells tinkling
The smell that reminds you of home
A dream remembered suddenly...
Blankets of snow..
Buckets of wine, love divine!
A tune from the carousel..
A book you can't put down...
A stolen kiss, lost in the mist
The intoxicating pleasure of hope
A joke that makes you bellow
A sudden tingling from deep within...
What things make you smile?
What things help you get through the day
Who put them there and why...
Thank God, for those moments...
