Phillip Michael Sawatzky - Alcoholic's Shanty

2014-11-07 2

I've high tolerance for me vodka and whiskey
Like a sailor's great love for the sea,
And even can tolerate tea-totallers and temperance
As long as they're not foisted on me,
Me, ne'r to be foisted on me.

Chorus:
Me, me, its all about me
As far as me bloody eyes see.
Though if drink be my bane,
Still it takes away pain.
O drunk is the best way to be.

My mother and father tried rightly to raise me
Like parents who care for their kind.
But something's amiss-I just needs to get pissed,
So I'll raise me a glass, two or three,
Three, raise me a glass two or three.

Me, me, its all about me
As far as me bloody eyes see.
With drink good and strong
I'll soon be far gone.
O drunk is the best way to be.

Though I waken in morning's gutter so grim
And me stomach's about to heave-ho,
There's always the hair of the dog that bit me,
Pledging abstinence, I mutters a hymn,
Hymn, pledge to abstain once again.

Me, me, its all about me
As far as me bloody eyes see.
Though one is too much
And a thousand n'er enough,
O drunk is the best way to be.

I once had a wife, fine car and warm home,
with children who counted on me.
But I threw them away, in the bottle I stayed,
Now me bottle has left me alone,
Alone, me bottle and me all alone.

Me, me, its all about me
As far as me bloody eyes see.
My attempts to kill pain
Only snuffed out me brain.
O drunk is the best way to be.

Resigned in me pity I'll be, I'll be,

And drunk is how they'll bury me.
