Jonzo Bandwagoner - A Schoolboy Attempt at French Poetry

2014-11-07 2

Au la French,
Romantic poetry
Is packaged in a lavished box,
Much like Italian spaghetti sauce,
Or sparkling storied Renaissance,
Or a single luminous nuance
In that golden head of yours.

Oh dear, last lines must always rhyme.
Again! I must improve this time!

Au la French,
Romantic poetry
Is packaged in a lavished box,
Much like Italian spaghetti sauce,
Or sparkling storied Renaissance,
Or... sentimental sappy bores?

What was it I said before?
Dear me, again I must reform.

Au la French,
Romantic poetry
Is packaged in a lavished box,
Much like Italian spaghetti sauce,
Spaghetti! That sounds right for lunch.

No, dear boy, focus, focus!
(Oh bother, what to write when one is verbless?)

Au la French,
Romantic poetry
Resembles much a boxing glove:
It often whams you in the mouth
Right when you’d had ‘dear love’ thought out.

(All right, I give up!) This plan
Of writing warming poems is canned.

Au la French,
Romantic poetry
Is best left to the French,
Who are experts on boxes and
Spaghetti and sauces and romantic
Renaissances and taunts and responses and
Low-lit sconces and luminous nuances
In that golden head of yellow looped locks.
