softly misted ocean breezes
strolled through her hair,
a million grains of sand between her toes.
the song she lifted on her voice
bespoke despair.
unwilling circumstance had interposed
something like a shadow's passing
among the words;
which otherwise rang true as any bell.
yet brightly sang she gentle verses;
the pain unheard,
except to soul that knew the feeling well.
slowly laying fragile body
upon the sand,
a childhood whim possessed her, suddenly.
and moved both arms and legs about, so
when she did stand,
she left an angel there to bless the sea.
