K. Jared Hosein - (Melancholy) I Write You This Tragedy

2014-11-07 4

It reminds me of
A strange medicine
That steals the evening star
Of its glow,
Or the ancient dolphin
That is trapped
Beneath the starry snow.

And it has me sitting here
Writing metaphors
Instead of saying
What I have to say,
And what I have to say
Is that just today
Was very grey
And you were with your Valentine
On the subway.

And he was seated
And made you stand,
Refused to hold your hand.
I have liked you this long
And that is all,
No metaphors or abstract recall,
There is no more,
There is your tragedy,
Echoing out the subway door.
