All laws have been rewritten
And reinforced,
Floating cities are sunken
And forever lost,
Firebombs rained from heaven
And Cupid cried its thousandth tear.
Eras of error have come and gone,
And everyone got their own year.
Every Jack got his jacket,
Every dog had its day,
Every criminal got its medal
And every hero had to pay.
The blackboard has been erased
And rewritten a thousand times,
All the ink has been spent
Writing modern nursery rhymes.
Everything has been spent,
Everything is worn,
Every night has passed,
Everything is gone.
No one remains and
There is no dawning of a new day.
After all this, the stars will still hang
And still will have nothing to say.
