Successful enlistment
as
the child becomes a bird.
Votive promise
to herself
fulfilled.
Wide beach,
tidal pools,
set the stage
for ephemeral
sunrise with
the gulls.
Silhouette against the sun’s
first scrap of light.
A cloud of sea gulls rise,
as she races like a condor
across the sand to gain the air.
Ambition satisfied
she takes flight.
Arms extended
feet retract,
to nestle beneath
the feathers of her tail.
Off she fly’s,
more like a jet then
an ocean bird...
