A resounding chimera
That taunts me with what could have been.
An echoing voice
That sings a ditty of wilderness unseen,
And the gales begin to swerve,
Howling the words of this song,
And it has been such a long time
Since I last sang along.
A great river
In which was rich with those dream-fishes
And sparkling pennies
Thrown down those Wells of Wishes.
And the water begins to ebb,
As if by the night entranced,
And it has been such a long time
Since I last danced.
This lost world
In which everything else was so far away
And the fidgeting meadows
Whispering of me yesterday,
And the boy begins to run
Through the valleys and the dales
And it has been such a long time
Since I last told these tales.
