Most people think that cats are a pest
when they climb up a tree and raid a blackbirds
nest; but when you have read this little story
you might want to praise the feline with glory.
In Egyptian times the cat was God and he was
greatly worshipped, wherever he trod.
Men were killed if they harmed the cats
because they were there to get rid of the rats.
A thousand years later they were introduced to Rome
to kill the rats that infested their home.
When Richard the Lionheart came back from the wars
so did the rats in tens and scores.
Every home in Europe now possessed a cat to get rid
of the rodent, The plague infested Rat.
Rats have brought plagues to many a fair city, but out
they went with the sight of the kitty.
The felines are hunters with a natural born skill, and even I
get upset when they come home with a kill. Then I realize
the cat is only doing what nature intended, that's why in the
past they have always befriended.
