K. Jared Hosein - (Pondering) Religion of the Wildebeests

2014-11-07 0

Little boy,
Draped in wildebeest hides,
Strolling barefoot along the river bank,
Smiling softly at heaven-light
That creeps through the canopy -
Tell me,
Who do you thank?

Who do you pray to,
Have you set aside a forest glade
To kneel at,
Where the gods can see you clearly?
Do you talk,
Do you sing,
Do you chant?
Tell me,
Who do you thank?

Is there a one god,
Perhaps a grand old tree
Or a mystical bird living atop it
That spreads its wings
And casts its shadow?
Or do you pray to the wind
And to the waters?

Or did you crawl into the forest
To escape religion?
