I have tried
I have tried so hard to make you proud
Lying about who I am.
Like the sky hidden behind a cloud
My life has become a scam.
I try so hard
However, you have failed to see.
And have built a bard
Deep down inside of me.
No matter what I do
Whether I lie or cheat
It never is good for you
All my life I have been beat
Until my skin turns blue.
Some bruises and some tears
They have all built up the courage
Now I have no fears
But many still discourage.
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
It may seem like Ill never change
But who knows what will become of them lies
Right now, it just all seems strange
Living a life full of comprise.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it very hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Digging' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
