My father told me,
'I know you can soar, you can have it all.'
When he showed me my Christmas gift,
Already mantled onto my wall.
I looked at it with unflinching eyes,
A stuffed eagle's head,
I believe signified high flight
That its amputated wings led.
I looked at it and wondered
Just how could this represent soaring,
When it lies there on my wall,
Lifeless, still-dead and dead-boring.
