K. Jared Hosein - (Death) The Doves on the Church Roof

2014-11-07 0

Red runs down my face
And the night is filled with weeping,
I'm all alone in the street,
Not a single eye is peeping.

An orange shimmer from a street light
Acts as a spotlight upon my death,
A swan song opera
Along an asphalt theatre set.

Oh Christ, oh God, Exodus,
I climb the stairs of the church,
On the roof, just light and dust
And a thousand doves perch.

I let out a sigh,
So be it if this is where I am to die,
As the doves started to coo,
I crawled over to the ledge
And on the side began to lie.

Then the sounds
Of more flapping wings
They held my clothes, lifted me up to
Eternity,
And everything else the sky brings.
