K. Jared Hosein - (Children) Only When They're All Asleep

When darkness shroud is lit up
With the candles of the stars,
Through my window shines a shimmer
All the way from Saturn and Mars.
My dolls spring to life, begin dancing,
And I lie in bed, startled and glancing.

They walk and jump and sing and scream,
Mr. Lion roars at Mr. Monkey
And Mr. Clown balances along the seam
And gives all the army soldiers ice cream.
And it happens only when they're all asleep,
Everyone in the world, dreaming dead-deep.

My parents knock my door, asking me
What on earth is that noise?
Everything scampers back into place,
I smile and smirk, 'Well, it must be the toys.'
They both sigh,
My mother's arm over her breast,
'Oh, Junior, you have school tomorrow,
Why not try getting some rest? '

But as soon as Mom and Dad are gone
And back into their bed,
They'll all come back out,
And how can I rest
With all that noise in my head?
