a blanket of black chases the fading sun away to the west
its imperfect reflection arises to meet the impending dark
and the bright candy of night appears, basking in all its glory
moonbeams shine down on the earth, a fine spray of dusty light
and I wonder why
why every night the stars emerge, and mankind still dreams
dreams of fanstasies that will never come true, that will vaporize
in the cold harsh air the moment they awake
of past memories so painful, so sad, they are locked in an endless cycle
in man's unconsiousness, never bobbing to the surface
of the disasters yet to befall them: catastrophies, chaotic scenes
running like a picture show in their darkened sleep
tempting cruel fate
and I wonder why
why God created this great vista of life, this galactic paradise
yet ridden with shattered hopes, and broken hearts that never heal
gouging scars, blood-soaked grounds
burning with their passion for more: more of everything there is
more control, more knowledge, more deaths
wanting to conquer the unknown, dragging humanity down
to the depths, the depths of the unknown
unseeing and unbelieving
why every morning, every day
the sun breaks across the far-reaching horizon
and humanity rises to meet it
looking up to the sky
the dark pigments of night wash into the pale hues of dawn
dark's moment has ended and the moon sinks behind cool mist
a fireball rises in the east, eating up night's fading candy
the red-orange meshes with the purple-blue shades of morning
another day has begun
another day to dream and discover
and I still wonder why
