David SmithWhite - Shills and Marx

2014-11-07 2

In the lofty realm of high finance, where the gods may deign to move,
a minnow swims against the tide, and dives through hoops to prove
it's all a game of fickle chance. Here greed mimics love.
And boardrooms play at sad romance, aloof and way above
the redundant rooves below, where peaks become troughs.
Here men will trade blows, as wolves will eat doves,
bears will lead bulls by the hairs of their scruff,
and lemmings learn to jump like the spikes on a graph.
When dog dines on dog, and sacred cows go daft,
the swine stuff their snouts and the sleek jackals laugh,
while the shill loads the dice and calls out the bluff
to the sheep on the floor and the mouse in the chaff,
when the buck's leery dance explodes in a puff!
And where the eggs, that nest in baskets, seem never enough.
