R.J. Bevans - His Life Became the Warning

2014-11-07 12

A friend I knew just yesterday
Told me things I’d never heard him say,
He spoke of things so badly,
His dreams were paid by wages.
His hopes were spoilt for women.
His thirst required drinking.

As life continued, day-by-day,
I no-longer heard what he had to say,
He had spoken too familiarly.
His daze released my adversary
His nights required a rival.
His life became the warning.
