I can recall a happy time
A happy time for me and you
The joys we shared
The sorrows, too
When we were young
I can recall the happy times
The happy times of every day
The made up tales
The scoldings, too
When we were young
I can recall each happy hour
Each happy hour of every day
When bed sheets formed our new abode
Then crumbled to rest our weary bones
The dreams we had
The nightmares, too
When we were young
I can recall the fights we had
The fights we had almost every day
The borrowed clothes
The giving, too
When we were young
I can recall the happiest time
On the most sacred of days
When we opened our eyes in the early morn
As the sun lay its warmth on a blanket of snow
And the Christmas tree
And the presents, too
When we were young
I can recall a tale you told
Of a new found love on an autumn day
As you walked on home - not a word to say
To a football star
To a boy in love
When we were young
And I can recall a misty sky
On a summers day near the end of July
Given the honor to stand by your side
I was dressed in pink - you were dressed in white
As you gave your vow to a football star
To a man in love
To the one you love
What a precious gift is God's gift of love
It will keep us young
For my sister Diane on her wedding day.
