Of all the strange and mystic lands
There is none like the desert sands
Where dancing heat waves thrust glare
on sage, mesquite and prickly pear. Remotely buzzards circle high
A menace in the brassy sky
And lizards, snakes are living things;
Cicada in the greasewood sings. The dawns spread pastels with their charms
On Joshua's contorted arms;
The desert-grandeurs awe imbue.............
This sun-parched earth has beauty, too! When I'm Away From You Night shadows make me lonely
and I've found it's true,
that I never feel quite happy
When I'm away from you. The skies above, so cold and dreary
take on their darkest hue
and cast a gloom within my heart
When I'm away from you A sense of loss prevails the day
and clings the whole night thru,
my empty arms stretch out in vain
When I'm away from you. If I but knew you loved me,
admired each thing I do,
what sunshine would invade my soul
When I'm away from you!
