derrick foster - Too Much And Not Enough

2014-11-06 14

On the corner of too much and not enough
I stand at the center
More like on the edge or outside looking in
There are two sides of the coin and
I'm left with no change
In the club of the elite, I'm not allowed to enter
At both ends, I'm excluded
Leaving one suspicious
In eyes of others, measure for measure
I still come up short
In the court of society, I'm the traitor or criminal
On the race meter, I'm to black or not enough
It's not my identity crisis just their expectation
I teeter on the cusp rocking back and forth
I'm not interested in the thoughts of outsiders
I get dizzy. Frankly it doesn't matter what they assume of me
I remain in the middle not that I want to be
If I put any effort into living up to what's expected of me,
I would be lost and stuck on the corner of too much and not enough.
I prefer the other side of the street
