Security cameras have captured the moment a Palestinian man rammed a vehicle into pedestrians in Jerusalem, killing one of them and injuring more than a dozen.
The driver was shot dead by police.
The pedestrian who died was reported to be a paramilitary border police inspector.
The Hamas group in Gaza has praised the attack.
Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said:
“Hamas blesses the courageous operation in Jerusalem and considers it as a normal reaction to the Israeli crimes in Jerusalem and in al-Aqsa. Hamas calls on all of our people to use all means to stop these crimes.”
The Israeli Prime Minister condemned the attack while attending a ceremony for the slain Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
“The ramming attack in Jerusalem is a direct result of the Palestinian President’s incitement and of his Hamas partners,” he said. “We are in a continuous battle over Jerusalem, which I have no doubt we will win.”
Two weeks ago a similar vehicle attack in the same area left a woman and a baby dead.
Anger over the incidents is expected to add to the rising tension in Jerusalem.
