Robotic Bartenders Prepare Cruise Ship Passengers' Drinks

Royal Caribbean recently unveiled a bar that features robotic bartenders.

One of Royal Caribbean’s latest ships, named Quantum of the Seas has a number of impressive amenities.

Among them is a bar featuring robotic bartenders.

Instead of directly interacting with the robots, patrons place their drink orders via tablets that are set up around the bar. They can choose from a number of traditional cocktails or use the touch-screen devices to order their own unique alcoholic concoction.

Depending on the customer’s wishes, the robots can shake, stir and muddle the drinks. Cruise ship passengers get to watch as their beverages are being prepared by the two robotic arms.

After the order is placed, the arms choose liquor bottles that are hanging nearby. From there, the robots pour and add the precise amount of ice and mixers.

The robotic bartenders are stationed inside the appropriately named Bionic Bar. In addition to the drink-making robots, the new ship also has several Roboscreens, fast broadband connectivity, and RFID luggage tracking devices.

Royal Caribbean International’s managing director, Stuart Leven remarked “The new technologies make things possible at sea that could never have been done before.”

Quantum of the Seas and her robotic bartenders hit the water for its maiden voyage this past Sunday.
