A bilateral US-Ecuador meeting is currently taking place in Quito between US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson and Ecuadoran Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño. A number of bilateral issues are being discussed, key among them being the cases of Ecuadorian fugitives finding refuge in the US. They include bankers convicted of embezzlement and former President Jamil Mahuad also convicted of embezzlement, after freezing Ecuadorian bank accounts. Patiño said the visit was in anticipation of another visit by Secretary of State John Kerry but a date has not yet been set. Liz Scherrfius reports from Quito. teleSUR
