Cape Verdian Aloísio Rodrigues and Lisboeta Tiago Loureiro are partners in the design team Banda, selected to participate in ModaLisboa’s Sangue Novo (New Blood) program. For Summer 2015, they have designed a collection they call Monument, which “is based on the hypothetical idea of an ancient civilization submerged in the ocean, waking suddenly from a coma and deciding to go the bottom of the sea to discover a beach in midsummer. Quite an elaborate premise to translate into fashion! Therefore, silhouettes are built in the image of a mutant, with a number of classic pieces deconstructed. Materials are high-tech performance fabrics with some details that alter the wear-ability of the garment. Textures mimic elements of the underwater realm such as light reflecting on the water or the spiral of a nautilus. Colors, too, are oceanic, with khaki, beige, light silver, ivory, olive, indigo and ocher.
