Passengers were forced to evacuate a Halloween cruise ship after the vessel struck an unknown object at sea. The nightmarish incident occurred on Friday night while hundreds of travelers were dressed in Halloween costumes.

Right after the ship hit something, it lost power. A 37-year-old passenger described the scene stating “At first you kind of thought, maybe this is a Halloween joke and this is supposed to be funny. As we were walking out of the room, the whole boat just went black.”

Others said the ship came to an abrupt halt. Passengers were left scrambling to find life jackets and the entire ordeal was summed up by a number of witnesses as chaos.

The vessel named The Bahamas Celebration was scheduled to arrive in Palm Beach, Florida early Saturday morning. After striking the object, the ship returned to Grand Bahama Island and passengers stayed at a number of nearby resorts.

They arrived safely at PortMiami on Saturday evening and were placed on a shuttle headed to West Palm Beach. No one was injured and cruise officials have spoken out about the incident, saying that at no time were passengers in any danger.
