An Alabama man recently told authorities that he committed armed robbery at multiple Subway locations because the chain’s diet plan didn’t work out for him.

The frustration of not losing weight while dieting can drive people to do extreme things, but usually those involve reaching for cookies, not an assault weapon.

An Alabama man recently told authorities that he committed an armed robbery at a Subway restaurant because the chain’s much-publicized diet plan didn’t work out for him.

According to police, he said that he was just trying to recoup the money he’d spent on the weight loss endeavor.

The slimming strategy he’s referring to is, of course, the one popularized by Subway spokesman Jared, who lost over 200 pounds by choosing sandwiches over more calorie-laden meal options.

18-year-old Zachary Rapheal Torrance apparently did not experience similar results.

His suspected crime spree began in the last week of October and is said to have involved 4 of Subway’s shops.

Police released surveillance footage and not long after received a call that the suspect was believed to be in Walmart.

An arrest was made and Torrance was questioned.

It was during that process that the suspect revealed his motive to an officer.

Although it’s been admitted that it was hard to tell if Torrance was serious or not, he was charged with first degree robbery and is currently in jail.
