Argentina’s president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has been admitted to hospital suffering from an “infectious fever”.
The 61-year old leader fell ill on Sunday, and admitted herself to the Otamendi Clinic in Buenos Aires.
It comes soon after another spell of sickness which had her off work due to pharyngitus in October.
Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich shed little light on the president’s condition.
“In regard to the president’s health, I refer to the official statement that mentions an infectious fever. I have been able to speak with the president on two occasions, yesterday at noon and also before she was hospitalised, before she went to the hospital for the evaluation as outlined in the press release.”
It is the latest in a string of health concerns for the president. Last year she had an operation to remove blood clots in her brain, which left her off work for six weeks. She also had surgery in 2012 for thyroid carcinoma.
