The new ad from Victoria’s Secret featuring very thin models and the tagline ‘The Perfect Body’ has sparked a significant amount of outrage as well as demands that they rethink campaign.
The advertisement is meant to promote the company’s latest offerings in the ‘Body by Victoria’ line; ; however, the double entendre has resulted in people focusing on matters other than the comfort and fit of its undergarments.
Twitter is now ablaze with disapproving remarks, a number of which point out that some women featured in the photo have visible ribs.
Comments have also included that it’s high time the glorification of such body types comes to an end.
One person Tweeted, “it's the 21st century and we still have to tell big corporate companies to stop body image shaming young girls.”
Another wrote, “I don't see why Victoria Secret wants people to think the perfect body is when your ribs are showing and you are just skin and bones.”
Some expressed their feelings via photos. Among them are three young women who got a shot of themselves flipping off one of the super-size ad posters.
A petition has been started on Change.org to persuade the company to apologize for and change the campaign’s wording.
