A new genetically modified variety of apple fizzes in your mouth with each bite, thanks to the presence of effervescent juices.

After years of research, scientists from Lubera, a fruit company in Switzerland have come up with the Paradis Sparkling apple.

A production manager at Lubera is quoted as saying: “It has a soft texture but a heavy crunch and very big cells that open up in the mouth, releasing a lot of acidity and sugar that gives you a feeling of having a fizzy drink.”

It reportedly took years of work to get the genetics just right for the Paradis Sparkling, which is supposed to mimic the carbonation of a drink like soda pop or champagne.

Experts at Lubera were able to create the Paradis Sparkling apple by cross breeding the richest apples from Resi, an East German apple famous for being sweet, and the Pirouette variety of apple.

The apple's sparkling sensation only occurs when its bitten into, not when it's pressed for it's juice.
Trees that grow this new kind of apple are now available on the market for a little over 50 dollars.
