Wau Bulan Wau Bintang
O- wau bulan wau bintang!
A monsoon breeze shakes the darling buds of paddy field,
Shine by the tropical sun like a golden shield,
The old scarecrow opens up his hands and sways gracefully,
Mimicking the farmers that are going to harvest joyfully,
Pipit hides amongst the paddy leaves quietly,
Pacat adheres itself on the paddy stem firmly,
A school of belalang hops into the sea of grains,
A swarm of walit circling around like a hurricane,
The mouse does not miss this opportunity,
So do the coiling serpent staring in hungry,
The farmers carrying guni walk down the hills,
And small scythe to cut the paddy stem in thrills!
O-wau bulan wau bintang!
The young and old cut down the bamboo tree,
And slice them from one into three.
Thin but firm bamboo frame is carved and curled,
Red and blue plastic paper is painted and folded,
Waiting patiently for the wind to pass by,
To set a sail into the vast blue sky,
A mystical scene when you climb and sway into the wind,
And you behave like those innocent children,
Soaring up high defying Earth's gravity,
Showing to the world Malay craftsmanship and intricate creativity,
Complimented by a hummer that makes the sounds of buzzing and purring,
Touching the cerulean sky with your wings!
