A kitten in California that ended up with microchip implanted in his spine recently underwent surgery. The operation took place on Tuesday and lasted about 2 hours.

The corrective procedure was reportedly performed by a board-certified veterinary neurologist. The best part is that Muffin seems to be doing very well.

The road leading to this wasn’t nearly as positive however. About two weeks ago, Muffin was adopted by Loran Slama.

As part of the process of getting Muffin ready to go to her new home, staffers at the Downey Animal Care Center implanted a microchip. Soon after, Muffin became lethargic and his head was left dangling.

Movement was difficult for the kitten so Slama took him to a neurologist, who informed her Muffin was paralyzed. An x-ray revealed the microchip was lodged in his spinal cord.

The surgery to remove it cost 25 hundreds dollars. The county offered to pay $1,500 towards the kitten’s care.

On crowdfunding site, YouCaring.com it was noted “MUFFIN survived the surgery and the microchip is out! We are so relieved! It will be a little while before we know how much mobility he will have, but the neurosurgeon is optimistic!!!!! Thank you all for your support of this little wee boy.”

More than $6,000 has been raised on YouCaring.com for Muffin.
