Nalini Jyotsana Chaturvedi - Psychiatric ward

Psychiatric ward

I sit amongst
Other sick souls
It's Dr's waiting room
Trying to find succour

Each one of us
Has a story to tell
How we got here
Why we live our hell

No broken bones
No signs of sores
Just the pains within
That ails our souls

Some of us
Do display some tears
A nervous tick,
Imaginary fears
A vacant look
With smile so scant
It's all age groups
All classes and clan

The doctor says
It's chemistry at play
The brain chemicals
Gone awry and astray

Trying to set us right
Curing us of
melancholia and fright

But little do they know
What triggered this fight
Malady of
apocalyptic might

When I came
In to this world
Tabula rasa
was the word

Someone scratched
And broke that slate
Now I sit and contemplated
About my history, ruminate

Some day I will
Break the code
True password
To healthful abode
