DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK - August 15th

2014-10-29 5

August 15th
- - - - - - - -
I was rich but innocent
Divine and humblest
Curiosity brought home
People from the farthest
East and west to see me
And my treasures said to be prettiest
I was the host
And they were merely guests
And time rolled by
I was tied and placed under home arrest
Oppressed and humiliated
Asked to stammer like a parrot
My sons and daughters were subjected
To inhuman physical assault
And some to them succumbed
My guests became my rulers
And for some years I stayed as spectator
Being discontent I sang song of freedom
Then I remember
The day was asleep
The world was asleep
But the night was awake
Stars were awake
The moon was playing hide and seek
And flowers dancing in mirth
Swaying to the passing breeze
Wafting fragrance of independence to every breath
And it was midnight
Twelve o'clock it struck
I felt being swept away
To heaven in freedom's light
My name is India
Celebrate today as independent day
Every year in delight……
