Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid, Altaf Hussain on Wednesday called upon the government to undertake the exercise for a country-wide census under the supervision of Pakistan Army.
Addressing a press conference here at MQM Headquarters via telephone from London, Altaf Hussain said: “It is our demand that the census exercise be carried out and completed at the earliest.”
The MQM Leader said ‘Sindh One and Sindh Two’ had been made in 1973 with the announcement of quota system for urban and rural parts of the province.
He said problems emanating from lack of census are aggravating with the passage of time.
Altaf Hussain said positive work of the government should be appreciated but wondered that if injustice with Sindh continued unabated, then can’t one choose the path of agitation.
“We should play an effective role of opposition for strengthening democracy,” he remarked.
He warned that before resorting to oppression the oppressors must not forget that just like them the people facing cruelty also have two hands.
He claimed that the number of MQM activists living in various cities of Sindh including Sukkur is such that it can perform the task of providing protection to the Sindhis.
Calling the attention of the Army, Altaf Hussain said if military leadership did not act judiciously, then it can lead to a possible public reaction.
