The House in the Coconut Farm
By Ismim Putera

White in colour, that's my house,
With a red zinc roof, and some hidden mouse,
Can you see it? -It's in the middle of a coconut farm,
That's it! -the one and only house, in the coconut farm

A brown river flows on the opposite side,
To cross the river, there is a black wooden bridge,
Tall and slender lalang grass grows around the house from side to side,
Patches of greenish ferns and mosses can be seen from the bridge!

He stands alone against the wind and fire,
And defends against the rainy thunder with no fear.
He stands alone with pride- high and free,
Facing the sky and heaven, like the coconut tree

He resists the radiant, under the heated sun,
But freezes the air, under the gloomy moon.
Patches of silky webs grow on each and every corner,
Some even entraps tiny drops of tropical water

It took five years to build the house,
So that the six of us, can sleep happily under the house,
My childhood runs from one and every angle in this house
It also shielded us from ghosts and insects that dwells outside the house

Twenty years of loyalty and trust,
Till all the lead and iron pipes turn into rust,
That's my house, one and only in the coconut farm,
The one and only house-in the coconut farm!
