As night time approaches and I lie abed
I wish for dreams to come into my head.
Dreams that will carry me far beyond
Regular occurrences to which I respond,
Dreams that resemble nothing I know,
Ones that never take me down low.
Sometimes I'm lucky and they do appear.
Some are soundless and in some I hear
The perfection we search for when we're awake.
Uninterrupted serenity
For which our minds ache.
Undivided unity
That nothing can break.
Unending patience
For however long it will take
To grasp it and recognize that
The dream is real.
It's not just something that you steal
At night for a few hours.
But an unending reality that is ours
To keep while awake
And not just asleep.
