Stephen Katona - A Parrot Saves Five Puppies

2014-10-29 4

In the middle of the night,
Sam the parrot gave his owner a fright,
Shouting into her ear,
To make certain she'd hear.
"Come on, come on! " he said,
To get her out of bed.
"What have you woken me up for? "
Suzanna said, "You've never done this before."

When she went downstairs to put Sam away,
Lying still in the hallway,
Around their mother strewn,
Were five Pomeranian puppies born too soon.
Each one was so cold and wet,
She wrapped them with a blanket,
Until warm and dry,
And sang a sweet lullaby.

"Thank goodness Sam gave me a warning,
In a few hours I'd have been in mourning.
There aren't many birds,
Who could say those words,
Or have such a caring heart.
You're so smart,
To heed their cries,
You deserve a prize."
