Stephen Katona - Daughter of Sunshine

2014-10-29 10

A three year old boy,
Owes his life to a gorilla in Illinois,
Called Jua Binti,
Or Daughter of Sunshine in Swahili.

Binti lived in Brookfield Zoo,
When the boy climbed a wall for a better view,
And fell eighteen feet,
Causing them to meet.

The boy hit his head,
And his parents thought he was dead,
But Binti used her intellect,
And a mother's instinct to protect.

Picking the boy off the floor,
She took him to the enclosure door,
With tenderness and love,
To the amazement of people above.

Binti handed him to the zoo keeper,
Who gave a banana to thank her.
The boy was better in four days,
And the whole world gave Binti praise.

At the age of just eight,
Binti managed to illustrate,
The way gorillas can behave,
And how worthy they are to save.
