A phenomenal woman she was in many ways
She continued to say yet still I rise
Then also knew why the caged bird sing
By the hint of the gleam in her eyes
A poet, author and a champion for change
Just a few of the many faces she wore
Fought many battles behind lifes scene
Her determination she had so bravely bore
Amidst the memory of dark and gloomy days
She sparkled like a diamond in the sun
Stood up for what she thought was right
When the race for equality had just begun
Touched by an Angel she was taken above
Left it all behind even those that she love
The million man march had not been in vain
An earthly story ends begins in Heaven again
