Skeletal human remains were recently discovered in Burlington County, New Jersey. On Monday, crews were digging a hole in a Riverton backyard.

The efforts were part of an in-ground pool installation. The staffers found the bones while excavating the site.

The skeleton was not concealed in a coffin. New Jersey State Police sent a forensic anthropologist to the scene to examine the bones.

Local crime scene investigators and officials from the prosecutor's office also arrived on the property to investigate. They were trying to find any potential evidence from the hole and front yard.

According to a spokesman from the Prosecutor's Office, there are no obvious indicators of foul play on the bones. At this stage of this investigation, it appears as though they are old and have been in the makeshift graveyard for possibly 100 years or more.

Reportedly, law enforcement authorities are looking into whether or not the property was used as a burial site. Some nearby residents were left wondering what happened after the crime scene tape was installed.

Staffers from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office used Facebook to put any potential rumors to rest. They clarified nefarious activity is not suspected in the case and there is no need for the public to be alarmed.
