A 13-year-old girl in Venezuela was left with a black, shriveled leg after being bit by a snake.
Getting bitten by a venomous snake is a nightmare scenario for all of us. A 13-year-old girl in Venezuela was brought to the hospital with a black, shriveled leg after just such an incident.
An Instagram user posted a photo of the injury to social media. The young teen was treated at a hospital in Caracas about a month after the injury.
Reportedly, the initial weeks were spent trying to treat her leg with traditional, indigenous remedies. When those methods failed, she was taken to a medical facility for care, however the aftermath of the snakebite had considerably worsened.
The rotting effect is the result of necrosis, or the death of body tissue.
It would appear her leg will need to be amputated, but it is not clear what her prognosis is.
An England-based doctor who has seen the photo but hasn't treated the girl explains “Snake venom is very complicated... the picture shows clearly severe tissue necrosis that will need amputation, though she still may die from this due to the nature of the poison.”
