Looking back once more
I could easily remember
even as those days are
far different and removed
When you my mother
was able to hear
even a pin drop
silently tip toeing
cross to the kitchen
Believing you were
in dreamland sleeping
Even then you could
hear the soda cork pop
Then your voice would
say to me out loud
Son, what are you
doing out there
Before I can even
finish answering to say
the usual, nothing Ma
You already knew better
then I would hear the shout
You better don't drink
all the soda in there
Just the way that Grenadian
mother said it.
Oh Mama
Listening to you now
Tells me you are not
hearing that well but
for me it doesn't matter
and nothing's changed
You are my only mother
I will help you find a way
To hear and understand at
least when we speak
Everything your son says
Seeing you at 93 you are
just a marvel to me
I will always hear your voice
Calling out with love
Still advising me
letting me be sure of the
best things to do
You will always be there
Oh mother I love you!
